Brokenness and Hanging On at Christmas

Along with the rest of the country, my heart is breaking. Breaking right in two.

Early this morning I scrolled through and looked into the bright eyes of those twenty babies in Connecticut as pent-up tears finally spilled from my own.  Babies.  Twenty of them.  And their  six teachers heroic, sacrificing all to save the rest.
Evil of this magnitude compartmentalizes itself and we mothers know that if we go through the door to process it, it will steal a piece of us.  So, I think I've been standing outside a bit.  Away...
I keep thinking about Christmas trees and emptiness within the houses of those 27 (yes 27 because I can't imagine what the shooter's family is enduring as well). These houses should be overflowing with loud laughter and brimming joy.   How can Christmas be Christmas for those hemorrhaging?

Children's eyes embody Light and Life and all that is Good in the world, magnified at this time of year.  Evil struck it down.
Such is the story of the world .  We began with His Light and Life and Goodness.  Evil struck it down.
Ah....but such is the precise reason Christmas came at all!!!!!  This is WHY!!! A Love story was written that first Christmas.  Written by a God pursuing us and redeeming us from the darkness of this imperfect world.  Though few noticed that Silent Night, Perfect Love pervaded the darkness to rescue us from it.  This is why HE came!!  In the Garden of Perfection, in the very beginning, evil reared its head and destroyed what was.

Imperfection and brokenness became then.....and remain still.........our dark reality.

BUT..... Because of CHRISTmas, evil will not have the last word.

This is WHY the Good News is GOOD NEWS!!

GOOD has won, and WILL win.
We will never understand the evil pervading this world.  We openly weep tears of grief when it steals pieces of our lives.
All I can do is hang on to the Truth that I know.

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption , the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:13-14 ESV
